Introspection time….
What is truly meaningful to you in your life. A practical exercise to help you frame this existential question is to write your obituary.
I just read the obituary from a friend for his father. The words were heartfelt and helped me see that my friend was a living tribute to his father, in how he lived and loved life and most importantly instilled the family values into his son.
If you passed tomorrow, what would those closest to you say at your funeral and it generally is not how much wealth you have accumulated:
– what you did?
– how you made a difference?
– what you built/created?
– whose lives you touched?
– what values you demonstrated during your life?
To me, the last two questions are the most important. One question noticeably absent in this overview list is how much were you worth? And yet, we spend much of our working and waking hours in pursuit of wealth which is not a goal itself; it is an outcome. The question about this pursuit of wealth is “how much is enough?”.
