Today, we will take a small detour from our usual comments about business succession. Work – life balance. Ah, this is the ever elusive goal of many of us, not to be over generalizing but certainly the goal of many a (Gen Alpha), Gen Z, Gen X, Gen Y and Millenial (with all due respect). Some thoughtful words and a link about this topic below. This is just as important a goal as anything you accomplish in your succession plan.
…best advice I read came from a book of fiction, Suzanne’s Diary to Nichola, by James Patterson.
Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called
1. family,
2. health,
3. friends,
4. integrity, and
5. work.
And you’re keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls—family, health, friends, integrity—are made of glass.
If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.
And once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will have the beginnings of balance in your life.
