I too own a business…a consulting business.  Is this something that I wish for my children to inherit.  Yes, but in a different way.  My vision is that my business will provide my family a good living while I am able to work.  I hope that I can share my personal values, not only with my children, who I hope will embrace these values throughout their lives, but also my workmates and other professional staff with whom I work closely.

Mentoring.  This is one of my most important goals in the workplace, next to ensuring that we serve our clients’ needs proactively.  However, one cannot be a mentor to everyone.  Given each day, I am of the view that I can really effectively mentor up to 4 persons.  This is challenging as to balancing the work that needs to be done and ensuring that we are progressing and that my mentors are meeting their own expectations and goals and objectives.

I have recently learned a valuable tool, which I am still honing and needs continual practice, navigational coaching.  Navigational coaching is well explained in this video.

What I find helpful about navigational coaching is that it focuses on the end goal and how to get there, with continual course corrections along the way.  It is not backwards looking except to get a point of reference to help identify the problem.

Learn, think, apply!

Thanks.
