Do you find your days filled with the minutiae of the moment?  Each day of operating  your business requires your personal attention and input on many of the decisions that have to be made.  How can you find the time to plan, strategize and start your succession journey?  Tough is it not?

You can find the time by making ths time.  I read what Bill Gates often did about once a year or once every two years.  He would take 3 to 4 days off in a row.  This would not be a restful time off; it was dedicated as a time for thinking.  What he would do is gather periodicals, articles, books and other current thoughts, both directly relevant to his company and also the economy, technology and any other relevant worldwide information.  Then he would go somewhere away from the office, and read, think and take notes.  What did he get from this?  Only one of the most successful software companies in history, continually advancing technology and computers’ capabilities.

How can you find the time and make the essential time to undertake this time for planning?  It takes commitment and planning.  In my view, it is essential that you do this for your family business’ good health and for succession.
